U2 Band posters
For this one day brief, I was tasked with creating a poster for a band/musician of my choice. Due to this I chose the rock band U2 and their early 2000's album All that you can't leave behind. I chose this album as I was a fan of the album art and the current U2 branding/logo designs that have already been made.
For my first design I used a minimalistic style. I redesigned their logo to be more symmetrical and square to fit into shape of the poster. I felt this gave the poster a clean finish. I also feel the redesigned logo looks cleaner more sleek and premium which is the look I was going for with this minimalistic design style. Apart from this I still feel it is close enough to the original as to make sure the poster is still relevant to the band.
For colour I have explored a range of 2 colour colour palettes. Because of this I chose contrasting colours that work well with a cream background I felt this would help highlight the minimal bits of imagery on the poster. I feel this blue works well as I feel it isn't too bright its unusable in smaller scales or harder to read in bright environments. On top of this I feel it gives the poster a very professional clean finish that I was going for.
For my second design I decided to recreate the album cover in an illustrative style. I decided to create a simplified version of the album art whilst altering it too fit onto the format of a poster.
For my colour palette I went with a variety of greys. I chose this as the original cover is a black and white image of the band.I felt this paid homage to the original cover whilst creating a good contrast between each part of the poster.
For my type I used a very simple sans-serif font. I chose this as I feel it is easy to read over the top of the album cover. To pair with this I feel it doesn't take away from the main focus of the poster. On top of all this I have used the font found on the album cover I chose this as it is an iconic part of the album cover.
